Maldon Uke Fest 2019

Held on the 17th of August 2019 in the South Woodham Ferrers Village Hall, Maldon Ukulele Group held a small ukulele festival and concert.

We turned up to see what was going on and create some biscuit mayhem.

The day started off with a young guitar player called Elliot, skilfully playing some classical guitar instrumentals.

After him, members of MUGs were able to perform sets along with other local groups, both ukulele and other bands. A great mixed afternoon of music.

Causing something of a distraction, we decided to research the possibility of using biscuits instead of plectrums to answer the old question of "which plectrum should I use for my ukulele?". We have to report that the research was NOT conclusive, however, we have included a video below for you to watch.

In the evening, a concert was held with Plastic Jeezus, The Hedge Inspectors, Phil Doleman and Opera-lele.

We have to say that if we were to choose a concert with four artists, this would be it. A great mix of music & entertainment from four great acts.

The whole day was to raise money for Alzheimer's charities, and with 180 people attending the eening concert, raised over £1500 for the charities.

Thanks to John Wathen and his team at the Maldon Ukulele Group for the invitation, and a great day. We hope the seagulls have properly cleared up the shredded biscuits for us!

Meanwhile, here's the video of our biscuit research.

I guess that's what they mean by "shredding" on a ukulele.
